Attaining my Grade 8 at the age of 12 and LLCM at the age of 16, I have been teaching piano since 2006, and have performed in masterclasses in RNCM Manchester and the Wiener Musikseminar.
Goal
After the unexpected death of one of my adult piano students, it became clear to me how short life’s hours are, and how nice it would be to only share them with like-minded people, who choose to spend time with you on their own accord.
I want to embark on a musical journey with you so that you develop as a person and pianist.
I do that by finding out what you like, are good at, and create lessons that fit your desires and intentions towards learning the piano.
-
Maybe you have pieces you have always wanted to learn?
-
Maybe you have an AMEB/ABRSM examination hurdle to overcome but feel stagnant?
-
Or perhaps, growing up you never had the opportunity to learn the piano and just wonder where that might take you?
The pleasure is all mine when I help you find value in spending time with the piano.
Philosophy
I have had all kinds of piano teachers. Some did their job transactionally by giving me fingerings to copy and recordings to listen. Others, like the authoritarian-famous ones, demonstrated pieces and instilled fear, but I often felt awfully inadequate after their lessons.
Suffice to say, not every teacher addressed techniques-development and most did not consider developing my musicianship beyond the boundaries of examination prerequisites.
Now decades later, I have had time to reflect.
A responsible piano teacher will refine my technique and help me understand the decisions behind fingerings and pedalling. The capable piano teacher will nurture my potential further and advance what I'm good at into the music so that I am not merely a piano student executing instructions, but am wholly an independent, authentic pianist.
Howbeit most importantly, the piano teacher-mentor will go so far as to even influence my identity as a pianist, and this I have come to realise, actually explains my own intrinsic love for the piano.
